Lamar Jones

Lamar Jones, 84, of Wilmar, died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.  Born November 4, 1933, he was a son of the late Velma and Otto Jones.

He was a member of Greater Shady Grove AME Church in Wilmar for 69 years, serving as a steward, trustee, and treasurer. He was an educator for 42 years. He also was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, PHA Mason – Unis Lodge 130, Advantages of Southeast Arkansas Board, Drew County Retired Teachers Board, former member of the National Education Association, Arkansas Education Association, Arkansas Association of Elementary School Principals, Arkansas Association of Educational Adminstrators, Phi Delta Kappa (Educational) Fraternity, former Dermott City Councilman and former 12th Episcopal District Lay Organization President of the AME Church.

Survivors:
His wife of 55 years – Elmarie Jones
His sons – Gregory of Monticello, Brian of Robinsonville, MS., Roderic (Romella) of Little Elm, TX., and Shawn (Yvonda) of Wilmar.
Siblings – Marie Jones of Chicago, IL., Bobbie Webb of Kansas City, MO., Georgia Hammock, Eunice Shorter, Sharon Henderson, Joe Jones (Angela) all of Wilmar and Artis Jones (Brenda) of Kansas City, KS.
Sister-in-law – Phillis White of Wichita, Ks.
Brother-in-law – Elmer Jackson
Grandchildren – Gregory Jr., Rashad, Aaliyah, Aalexus, Raven and Aalanah
Great grandchildren – Jayden and Nova
Uncle – James Lamb
A host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the Drew Central Auditorium in Monticello with Rev. Marvin Mosby officiating and Rev. James R. Hooper eulogist..  There will be a family hour at Shady Grove AME Church in Wilmar on Friday from 6pm - 8pm.  Burial in Wilmar Cemetery with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home of Warren.
