Doyle K. Gates

Doyle K. Gates age 94, of Hermitage, AR died Thursday, July 27th at the St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock, AR.  He was born April 29th, 1923 in Farmville, AR a son of the late Quinnie E. Gates and Zola Bea Grider Gates. Mr. Gates was a farmer and a commercial fisherman on the Ouachita River his whole life.  He loved to turkey and deer hunt which he did until this past hunting season.  He was a fierce crappie fisherman and enjoyed taking his family and friends to Greens Lake and Pereogeethe Lake where he spent his life fishing.  Doyle was a Christian and served in the Navy. He was educated in the school house at Marsden, AR where he would ride his bicycle miles to school with his sister Ardie Bea on the back and he graduated from the Hermitage Public Schools.  Mr. Gates was preceded in death by his brothers, Oran “Duce” Gates, Elbert Gates, Carl Gates, and his sister Ardie Bea Gates Green.  2 nephews David Green and Steve Hutsebout.

He is survived by his brother R. L. Gates, Warren, AR. His nieces and nephews, David and Regina Gorman, Monticello, AR, Keith Gates, Warren, AR, Barbara Kay and Tom Boyer, Atlanta, GA, Beverley Hutsebout, Atlanta, GA.  Sue Green and Karen Green both of Valparaiso, Ind. and Nahoko Green of Illinois.

Funeral service was 2:00 PM Monday, July 31st at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Marty Reep and Rev. Tim McDaniel officiating. Linda Barrett was organist. Active pallbearers were Brian Hutsebout, Keith Gates, Brandon Gorman, Steve Richardson, Tom Boyer, Stanley Johnson, and John Ragar. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Carol Grider, Kenneth Johnson, Rawls Deer Club, Wayne Sinclair, Grady Rawls, Robert Ragar, Kent Measel, Dr. Kerry Pennington, and Daniel Sellers.
