Jackalyn Kay McGrew Hicks

Jackalyn Kay (McGrew) Hicks, 65, of Battle Creek, Michigan went to be with her lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015 surrounded by her family. Jackalyn was born in Battle Creek on August 8, 1949 to Roger and Phyllis (Packham) McGrew. She attended Battle Creek Public Schools and was employed in housekeeping at the Laurels of Bedford.

Jackalyn was united in marriage to Mark E. Hicks Sr. on September 1, 1972. Sadly she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark on April 23, 2011. Surviving are six children, Joyce (Roy) Lephiew and Jerry (Angela) McGhan all of Warren, AR; Mark (Jodee) Hicks, Jr.; Priscilla Hicks, Lucinda Hicks (Scott Smith) and Melinda Hicks all of Battle Creek; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, BethAnn Fletcher of Nashville, MI; and "Fred" , Jackalyn's dog. In addition to her husband, Jackalyn was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Judy Millsap, Nancy Horwath and brothers, Roger McGrew and Jimmy McGrew , and her mother and father-in-law, Jess and Lucille Hicks.

Jackalyn enjoyed cooking out, camping, shopping, going out to eat, sitting in her rocking chair on her porch watching hummingbirds, and spending time with her family and grandchildren and her everyday calls from her family in Arkansas. She especially loved and appreciated her granddaughter Staceshawn Alexander who lovingly cared for her in her time of need. Most of all she loved spending time with her family/ her great-grandkids Genna and Quavie, staying nights with her.

Friends will be received 5-8 p.m. Monday at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 with Pastor George Gay, officiating. Committal and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
