Marjorie Ward-Ross

Marjorie Ward-Ross, 89, of Mt. Olive, died July 9, 2021.  Born January 25, 1932, daughter of the late Semenn and Edith Spann Ward.  She was a graduate of the Houston, TX. school system and earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Education from Texas Southern University. She retired from the California School system after 37 years in education.

Marjorie married Henry J. Ross in the 1950’s. To their union one child was born.

She was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church and active in her community, serving in Bradley County Retired Teachers Association, Hermitage PTO, Hermitage School Volunteers, Friends of Bradley County Library, Gladiola Garden Club, Extension Homemakers Club, Lilllie-Hadley Area Missionary Society of the AME Church, Hampton Chapel AME Church bible school, D.A.T.E., a Substance Abuse Prevention Program in the Hermitage School District, 1989 Bradley County Spelling Bee, Bradley County Hospital Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Museum and Warren Library book clubs.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ross; siblings, Willie Washington, Lena Craig, Helen Adams and Elizabeth Spates.

She is survived by her son, James J. Ross.

Memorial service was held July 24th, St. James AME Church, Warren. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.

  1. Mrs. Ross was my 4th grade teacher at G. W. Carver in Houston, Texas in 1956. She was a great teacher. I never forgot her in all the years since 1956. She helped to make me the person that I am today. I am so sorry to hear about her passing. I have been retired for a number of years but I often think of her.
