Shirley Ann Baker Ross

Shirley Ann Baker Ross, age 72, of Monticello, AR passed away on September 1, 2020, at Baptist Health Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Shirley was born on July 8, 1948, in Warren, Arkansas. Shirley was a 1966 graduate of Warren High School. After high school, she married and moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she lived and worked in the food service business for several years before relocating to Hot Springs where she owned and operated a small convenience store. Although the store was very successful, she truly enjoyed the food service business; so in the mid 90s she moved back to Warren where she had the opportunity to provide the food service at the Warren Country Club. In June of 1999, she was featured in the local newspaper as the Bradley County Cook of the Week and shared her personal Celestial Chicken Salad recipe. Although her chicken salad was delicious, she was best known for her spectacular “Shirley Burgers” which were enjoyed by many patrons of the club. She later moved to Dalhart, TX where she owned and operated a restaurant which served the local public but was dedicated to be “on call” to provide food service for railroad workers. Her restaurant and tasty food were a welcomed sight to hungry railroad workers who arrived late at night and in the early hours of the morning. As railroad business shifted away from Dalhart, she moved to Pratt, Kansas where she had family; and then eventually returned to Arkansas in 2020. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James Tillman Baker and Margie Grider Baker; and a sister, Sue Baker Thomasson. She is survived by her three children; Christopher Wayne Wren of Colorado, Amanda Brooke Ross of Missouri, and Jessica Ross Leckner of Kansas; five grandchildren, Giuliana, Jeffrey, Halle, Laurence, and Mason; her sister, Glenda Baker Tolson (husband, Bob); her brother, James Samuel “Sam” Baker (wife Vickey); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside service for family and friends was held Saturday, September 5, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Pattsville Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Rawls officiating. Burial was in Pattsville Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Justin Baker, Riley Baker, Josh Baker, Gary Wayne Grider, Terry Grider and Allan Doss.
