Cathy L. Raymer


Mrs. Cathy L. Raymer, age 64, of Milner, Georgia passed away at her home Wednesday, April 25, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.

Cathy was born in Monmouth, Illinois on March 23, 1954. She received B.S. degrees in Agronomy and Horticulture from the University of Illinois and later a M.Ed. from Georgia State University. Cathy dedicated her career to helping children succeed.  She was a teacher for the Griffin-Spalding County School System; serving first as a special education teacher both at elementary and high school levels, and later as a science teacher at Griffin High School. Cathy is loved by so many, from so many different walks of life:  her family, her ‘village’ of friends, her beloved Episcopal church family, her life-long friends, her teacher friends, former students, her equestrian friends, and others.

Her father, Gail Eugene Bush, precedes her in death. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul L. Raymer; children, Matthew Paul Raymer and wife Natalie; Elizabeth Raymer Calderone; grandchildren, Stone Saliba and Anthony Paul Calderone; mother, Helmeta Carlson Bush; sisters, Rene Montgomery and Georgia Purcell; and brother, David Bush and wife, Aimee.

Funeral services in celebration and thanksgiving of the life of Cathy L. Raymer were Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 3:00 pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church,132 North 10th St., Griffin, GA 30223. A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00 pm at Shady Grove Cemetery near Warren, Arkansas with Rev. Dwayne Ashcraft officiating. Arrangements were by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
