Wayne Allen Clanton


Wayne Allen Clanton, age 82, of Warren, Arkansas died at Bradley County Memorial Hospital December 22, 2014. He was born in Ingalls, Arkansas, son of the late J.C. and Reba Clanton. Wayne started his education in Ingalls and Vick, and then graduated from Warren High School. After graduating from high school, Wayne joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Natchaug and fought in the Korean War. After returning from sea, Wayne married the love of his life, Ora King Clanton. He described his marriage “as the best 62 ½ years of his life”.

He attended college at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and received his BS degree in Chemistry and Biology and later attended college at Arkansas State working toward his Masters degree. After his college graduation, Wayne taught school for one year at Walnut Ridge. He returned to his love of chemistry and worked as a chemical analyst working with various leading color dispersion companies. He spent his final three career years as President and CEO at Spartan Color and Chemical in Houston, Texas.

In retirement Wayne enjoyed traveling to foreign countries with his beloved wife and enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories. He was a history scholar and loved to share stories with all he met of times long ago. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving is his cherished wife, Ora King Clanton, 4 children: Timothy Dale Clanton (deceased), David Allen Clanton (Rose) of Warren, AR, Mark Anthony Clanton (Debbie) of Warren, AR, Dr. Cathy Colleen Clanton Reeves (Dr. David) of Bowling Green, KY. Grandchildren Richard, Shane, Julie, Melanie, Misty, Marci, Katie and Ben and Great Grandchildren: Sarah, Cody, Joseph, Taylor, Rollie, Mason, Mackenzie, Axton, Zeke, Bella, Bently, Nathan, Annie and Carmen. Three sisters Shirley Clanton of Warren, Elizabeth Smith of Warren and Helen Furgerson of Little Rock, two brothers Danny Clanton of Little Rock and Gerald Clanton of St. Louis, MO.

Wayne was preceded in death by his son Timothy Dale Clanton and 2 grandchildren Jennifer Diane Clanton and Matthew Ryan Reeves.

Funeral services was 1:30 p.m. Friday December 26, at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Timmy Williams officiating. Music was provided by Linda Barrett, Betty Clements and Katie Reeves. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery at Ingalls, AR with a flag presentation by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Shane Clanton, Ben Reeves, Richard Clanton, Cody Williams, Joseph Williams and Stephen Hammock. Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Clements, Lamar Castleberry, Foster Smith, H.P. Reeves, Bob Townsend, Dr. David Chambers and Dr. Michele Weaver. Memorials preferred Bradley County Veterans Museum or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Shreveport, LA.
