Hollis Clanton


Hollis Clanton age 95, of Johnsville, AR died Saturday, April 19, at his home.  He was born August 2nd, 1918 in Johnsville, AR a son of the late Samuel Wesley Clanton and Claudia June Woodward Reaves Clanton.  He was a lifelong tomato farmer,  a graduate of Vick schools, and a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to deer hunt and turkey hunt the year around, fished when he wanted too and when the farm work started, then he was straight business.   He was also preceded in death by Martha Lavada Harrod Clanton, whom he married July 16th, 1938 and she died May, 6th, 1997.  A son Everett Clanton, brothers; Elmon Clanton, Cason Clanton, Alford Clanton and Clifton Reaves. Sisters; Vashti Temple, Maudie Belle Ferrell, Cora Mae Baker, Nora Ferrell and Ruby Ferrell.

Survivors include his son, Randy Clanton and spouse Judy, Hermitage, AR , his daughter Marcia Quimby and spouse Michael, Stonewall, LA.  6 grandchildren Beverly Clanton, Sam Clanton, Randy Clanton, Jr, Sherri Troegel, Darren Clanton and Kaylon Taylor.  10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services were 2:00pm Monday, April 21st at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Johnsville with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Nina Harrod was pianist. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Randy Clanton, Jr., Dwayne Harrod, Clay Lowry, Brent Harrod, Brad Harrod, Scotty Ferrell, Marty Lee Wardlaw and Alex Troegel. Honorary pallbearers were Sonny Rainey, Charles Edward Ferrell, Kermit Ferrell, Ernie Ferrell, Carroll Gene Temple, Donnie Ray Lowry, Charlie Maxwell, Allen Ferrell, Marty Wardlaw, Eddie Ferrell, Dennis Hays and David Temple.
