Christine Maroney Green age 94, was born Sunday, January 18th, 1925 in the small and prosperous Bradley County farming community of Jersey, Arkansas. She departed this life peacefully on Saturday, November 16th, 2019.
Ms. Christine, whose birth name was Mary Christine Maroney, grew up in the Banks, community during the depths of the Great Depression. After graduating from the local high school, she attended Draughn’s Business College in Little Rock during which time she met her husband of 64 years, Edgar Green. A short time after graduation she was hired by the newly created United States Naval Ammunition Depot based in Camden, Arkansas, where she would remain employed as a civil servant for nearly twenty years. Upon the closure of her department at Camden, her skills found her employment closer to home in the business office of Potlatch Corporation, where she would remain employed for an additional two decades. Ms. Christine was a member of what Tom Brokow has termed the “Greatest Generation”. This generation of Americans was forged by the hardships of the Great Depression and a world at war. This was the generation that presided over decades of expansion and prosperity. A generation that chose a life centered on church and family, and adhered to the “Golden Rule”. One which was generous, saved their money, and usually never spent more than they could afford. A generation in its twilight, and the likes of which will never be seen again.
Ms. Green was a long-time active member of the Banks Presbyterian Church, the Trinity United Methodist Church of Warren, and the Christian Fellowship Church, also in Warren. She professed salvation many years ago at a J. Harold Smith Revival, and always looked forward to one day being with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Ruby Belle Maroney of the Lanark Community, by her devoted husband Edgar Gardner Green of Warren, two brother Fredrick Maroney, who died in infancy, and her beloved younger brother and childhood companion, James Henry (Junior) Maroney, of the Lanark Community.
Survivors include one sister Martha Louise Colvin, Silsbee, Texas, one son, Gary Green and wife Sharon, Warren, one grandson, Jason Green and wife Jessica also of Warren, three great-grandchildren Benjamin, Judson and Elianna Green, plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were 10:00AM Tuesday, November 19th at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann and Rev. Russell Rhoden officiating. Rev. Russell Rhoden and Marlin Raines were the soloist. Burial was in McFarland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
