Vennie Mathis Stanley, 93, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She was born April 18, 1924, in Wilkes County, NC, to Jones and Kate Thornton Mathis. She was a graduate of Ronda High School and retired as a long-time employee of the Chatham Country Store in Elkin / Jonesville, NC.
Vennie was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Elkin, for over 60 years. She served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, director of the Woman’s Missionary Union, and member of the adult choir.
In addition to her parents, Vennie was preceded in death by her husband, A. Thomas Stanley, and by three brothers and nine sisters. She is survived by her son, Gregory T. Stanley and wife, Sharon, of Hot Springs Village, AR; a granddaughter, Sarah Henry and husband, Patrick, of Conway, AR, and grandson, David Stanley of Arkadelphia, AR; two greatgrandchildren, Max and Molly Henry; one sister, Myrtle Hayes of Elkin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2:00PM Wednesday, March 28th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin, NC. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
