Thomas Edwin Sanders

Thomas Edwin Sanders, age 92, passed from this life on March 27, 2018, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. A son of Keith Sanders and Davie Leslie Sanders, he was born on December 8, 1925, at Warren, Arkansas.

He is survived by the love of his life, Melba Jeanette Gambill Sanders of Warren, whom he married November 2, 1946; a daughter, Brenda Carol McDougald and husband, Kenneth McDougald; a grand-daughter, Leslie Ann McDougald Stephens and husband Joseph Gentry Stephens; and a great grandson, Gentry Thomas Stephens; all of Warren, Arkansas. He is also survived by one sister, Nan Walker, of Warren, Arkansas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bill Sanders and two sisters, Emma Sanders Watson and Peggy Sanders Temple.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army in World War II. He served in the 102nd Infantry Division, known as the Ozark unit. He served in combat operations from France throughout the European Theater ending in Berlin.

Edwin was a member of the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church. Edwin loved his family and getting together for family meals and holidays. He was known for his “green thumb” and was an avid gardener. Edwin worked as a grocery salesman for over 30 years, traveling throughout most of southeast Arkansas. Friends and relatives knew Edwin to be a kind, patient, honest, and most courteous true Southern gentleman.

Funeral services were at two o’clock, Saturday, March 31, at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Burial services immediately followed at Ebenezer Cemetery, located west of Warren by Frazer’s Funeral Home.  Memorials preferred the Bradley County Veterans Museum, 210 N. Main Street, Warren, AR 71671.

Pallbearers were Jim Anders, Johnny Gonzalez, Charlie Gonzalez, Joe Hairston, Chuck McGinty, Gentry Thomas Stephens, Cliff Morgan, and Billy Sanders.
