Wilbur G. Thornton, Jr.

Wilburn G. Thornton, Jr, age 85, of Warren, AR, died Wednesday, January 24, at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, AR. He was born August 4, 1932, in Warren, AR, a son of the late Wilburn Thornton, SR, and Audra Beard Thornton. Wilburn was a retired Senior Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, serving as a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He also retired from the Arkansas Employment Security Division, Warren Bank & Trust Co. and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was the widower of Evelyn Gavin Thornton who died July 19, 2014. They were united in marriage March 4, 1951. Also, preceding Wilburn in death was a son Tommy G. Thornton; brothers Dave Thornton, Paul Thornton; and a sister Alice Rook. 

Survivors are one son Allan Thornton and spouse P.J. of Hot Springs Village, AR. Three brothers Marty Thornton, Jimmy Thornton and Bob Thornton all of Warren, AR. Three sisters Betty Lou Broom, Mary Thornton both of Warren, AR, and Ruth Thornton Thayer of Austin, AR. Two grandchildren Heather Sullins and spouse Rodney of Bryant, AR, and Brandon Thornton of Little Rock, AR. Two great-grandchildren Cooper and Carter Sullins.

Graveside service was 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at Union Cemetery in Rye, AR, with Rev. Matt Overall officiating. Arrangements were by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Brandon Thornton, Tim Rook, Dillon Rook, Joey Fitzgibbon, Mike Thornton, Frankie Broome, and Eddie Broome, Jr. Memorials preferred to Bradley County Veterans Museum; 210 North Main St.; Warren, AR, 71617.
