Coach Jamie Raper

Coach Jamie Raper, age 84, of Warren, Arkansas died Thursday, January 19, at Little Rock. He was born August 2, 1932 in Smackover, Arkansas a son of the late Homer Raper and Mamie Ruth Martin Raper.  He received his education in the Smackover Public School System and was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College. He served in the U. S. Army and was a retired Colonel Arkansas National Guard. He was an assistant coach for the Warren Lumberjacks under Coach Mickey O’Quinn and was named head coach in 1964 retiring in 1969.  He was a Baptist. He married Mary Helen Williams May 31, 1964 at Warren and she died July 6, 2006. Surviving is a son Matt Raper and spouse Carrie, Warren, Ark; a daughter Amanda Gladden, Warren, Ark; 4 grandchildren Zachery Raper, Caleb Raper, Ana Raper and Mary Faith Owens and a great grandchild Alexxis Latiker. Funeral service was 1:30 Monday, January 23, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Reuel Cruce  and Robert Dew officiating. Burial was in Garrison Cemetery with a flag presentation ceremony. Active pallbearers were Roger George, Ed Lain, Marion Glover, Bill Wisener, Tyler Rodgers, Ranner Rodgers and Ronnie Higgins. Honorary pallbearers were all fomer Lumberjacks and friends.
