Rev. Willie Rainey

Rev. Willie J. Rainey, 57 of New Edinburg, died Wednesday, November 15, 2016 in Cleveland County.

Born December 21, 1958, he was a son of Doris Rainey and the late Tol Rainey, Sr.

He attended New Edinburg Public Schools, where he was a star basketball and baseball player.  He was the owner of Rainey Logging Company.  He became pastor of St John and Piney Grove AME Church in October 1997 and in 2007 he was assigned to Palestine AME Church in Tyro.  He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic, Arkansas Sports Association, Cleveland County School Board, Amateur Softball Association and C & C Hunting Club.  He was known throughout Arkansas for his excellent officiating skills.

He was also preceded in death by brothers Mack Rainey, Frankie Rainey, and uncle I.V. Johnson.

Grandchildren-Patrick Rimsey, Sy'Taija Rimsey, and Vontae Rimsey
Great grandchild-Denim Rimsey
Siblings-Evines Rainey (Janice), Harold Rainey, Kelly Rainey, Petty Rainey, T.J. Rainey, Johnson Rainey, Betty Rainey, Ollie Rainey, Essie Rainey, Dorothy Jacob (Verna Ray) and Connie Ratliff (Eric)
A host of other relatives and friends

Funeral services were November 23rd at the Warren Cultural Center with Rev. James R. Hooper officiating and Bishop Michael L. Mitchell eulogist.  Burial in Piney Grove Cemetery in New Edinburg with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home of Warren.
