Carrie Mae Courtney

Carrie Mae Courtney, 98, of Monticello, died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Chapel Woods Nursing Home in Warren.

Born September 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Josie Gant.

She was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello, where she served on the kitchen ministry, mission society, EC Allen Circle, as a church clerk and Mother of Deaconess ministry.  She was educated in the Collins Public Schools.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Baby Courtney; siblings, Fred Moore, Willie M. Youngblood, Josie Tillman, three children, Wanda, Thomas, and Joyce Sawyer.

Survivors:
Children-Eartha Veasey (Melvin), of Memphis, TN., Doris Davis of Warren, JoAnn Weaver of Sherwood, Alice Faye Williams (Alex) of Tulsa, OK., and Bobby Ray Courtney (Jewelette) of Pine Bluff.
11 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were September 24 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello with Rev. D.J. Buffington officiating.  Burial in Oakland Cemetery with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home of Warren.
