Rosalyn Mitchen Spencer

Rosalyn Mitchen Spencer, 86, native of Crossett, AR and resident of Baton Rouge, La passed away peacefully on March 19, 2015. The daughter of Roy and Fannie Mitchen, Rosalyn was born in Crossett, Arkansas, graduated from Crossett High School and Harding Christian College in 1951 with a Bachelor Degree in Math. She taught math and married Jack Spencer in May 1957. After Jack’s death on March 4, 1974, she worked as a bookkeeper and cared for her parents, Fannie and Roy Mitchen. After their deaths, she did mission work in Czechoslovakia and Latvia. She loved to travel, travelling the world with her father before his death, and sharing extended trips to Europe as well as numerous trips across America with family and friends. In addition to Crossett, she resided in Garland, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Monticello, Arkansas. She has resided in Baton Rouge since 2006, where she has been a faithful member of the South Baton Rouge Church of Christ, teaching English to Chinese students through the Bible and serving the Church in many capacities. She is survived by her brother, Joe Mitchen (Jane); her stepsons, Dennis (Marilyn) and Doug (Debbie) Spencer; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 9 great grandchildren and their spouses; 1 great great grandson; 3 nieces, Diana Jones (Daniel), Linda Brooks (Casey), and Susan Collins (Larry); 3 nephews, James Mitchen (Cynthia), Richard Mitchen (Melanie), Charles Mitchen (Julie); 16 great nieces and nephews; 20 great great nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. She was greatly loved by her whole family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Spencer; parents, Roy and Fannie Mitchen; and nephew, Michael Mitchen. Graveside services were 10:00AM Tuesday, March 24th at Lacey Cemetery with Rev. David Richie officiating. Arrangements were by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Burial was in Lacey Cemetery.
