Paulette P. "Polly" Culpepper


Paulette P. “Polly” Culpepper, age 95, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Warren, Arkansas died Thursday, August 7, at Kingwood, Texas. She was born August 13, 1918 at Bee Branch, Arkansas a daughter of the late Eustace Presson and Alice Gertrude Jennings Presson. She held a B. A. from  the University of Central Arkansas, taught in  high school in  Arkansas and Missouri and Warren High School where she taught English, Latin,  typing and shorthand.  Polly retired in l949. The late C. Ramon Greenwood wrote in his book Another Time, Another Place “Paulette Presson was the first teacher to really encourage my aspiration to write”.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Warren.
She married Garner Thomas Culpepper on September 19, 1947 in Malvern, Arkansas and he died December 27, 1993. Polly is remembered as outspoken person with a innate sense of fairness. Surviving is a son Sam Culpepper, Houston Texas; a grandchild Brett Catlin Downey Riggle, Brooklyn, New York; a niece Sarah Alice McKinney and a nephew Pat McKinney, both of Fort Smith, Arkansas.  She was slso predeceased by a daughter Paula Lee Culpepper Downey and a sister Alice Mae McKinney.  Graveside services 11:00am Monday, August 11, at Greenwood Cemetery at Rison, Arkansas.
