John Douglas Wheeler


John Douglas Wheeler, 66, of Walnut Hill, FL passed away May 28, 2014 in Pensacola, FL. from bone cancer after having a successful kidney transplant in September 2012. John was born on February 27, 1948 in Warren, Arkansas and was of the Baptist Faith. His parents, Douglas Ray Wheeler and Frances Powell-Wheeler of Warren, AR preceded him in death.
 He worked in Warren for the Police Department, Ambulance Service and was a Volunteer Firefighter.  Later he became an Arkansas State Trooper. He served in the US Navy and retired with 20 years of service as a 1st Class Petty Officer. He worked as a Nuclear Med Tech Security Force Officer.
 In Florida he worked as the Deputy Fire Chief for the Bellview, FL VFD, an IT Tech Smart Cop who successfully developed 800 radio communications for the Pensacola Junior College Police Dept. and the Gulf Breeze, FL Police Dept. John later retired from the State of Florida Dept. of Financial Services as a Workman’s Compensation Investigator.
 Survivors include a daughter, Amy Ruth Wheeler of Pensacola, FL, two sisters, Donna Raines (Marlin) and Nancy Jones (Calvin) and one brother, Jimmy Wheeler, all of Warren, AR; a nephew, Rev. Eddie Raines (Jodi) of Warren, AR; three Nieces, Sarah Valentine (Matt) of Warren, AR, Michelle Johnson (Pete) of McGehee, AR and DeAnna Dillon (Sean) of Conway, AR; Great Nephews and Nieces, Alex, Andrew, Abby, Amelia, Kelsie, Raven, and M.J.,  all of Warren, AR and Aidyn and Zoey of Conway, AR. The family also wishes to acknowledge and thank a very special friend to John, Paul Ferguson of Walnut Hill, FL. Paul was a friend and caregiver for many years.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 11:00-12:00 at Eastern Gate Funeral Home in Pensacola FL.  The funeral service followed at 12 noon. Pastor Hazel Godwin from Pine Forest Pentecostal Church, Pensacola, FL and Rev Eddie Raines from Victory Baptist Church in Hampton, AR officiated.  Interment was at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
